<p>The Laura Moriarty papers contain poetry and prose manuscripts, notebooks, journals, correspondence, photographs, personal and professional records, ephemera and works by others. Laura Moriarty (1952-) is an American poet, novelist, editor and artist based in California. Author of over 25 books and chapbooks, Moriarty worked for the American Poetry Archives, The Poetry Center at San Francisco State University as archives director (1986-1997) and for Small Press Distribution (1998-2018) as assistant director and later deputy director.</p>

Scope and Content:
<p>The Laura Moriarty papers contain poetry and prose manuscripts, production materials for publications, notebooks, journals, correspondence, photographs, personal and professional records, ephemera and works by others. Collection materials are primarily in English with some scattered French. Collection material largely originates from the United States of America and particularly California's San Francisco Bay Area, where Moriarty has been primarily active, but also includes material from other countries, including Canada and France. The collection reflects Moriarty's various roles within poetry communities over time, from student to teacher, published author to editor, her career as a working poet and other professional and personal endeavors.</p><p>Series I is the collection's largest and features extensive material related to Moriarty's published and unpublished works, collaborations with others and work editing the online journal <emph render="italic">non</emph>. Series I also includes several decades of notebooks and journals. Notably, Series IV contains over 2,300 color photographs depicting Moriarty's life through travel, professional activities and important relationships. Born-digital content in this collection includes manuscripts, photographs, a video and website crawls.</p><p>The collection also includes significant concentrations of material related to several other poets, especially Jerry Estrin, Moriarty's first husband and partner of 19 years. Estrin's presence and influence appear in many areas of the collection, from his annotations on Moriarty's early manuscripts in Series I and scrawled notes on the backs of unrelated envelopes in Series II to the many photographs of and by him in Series IV. Norma Cole, Moriarty's longtime close friend, is well represented in correspondence, manuscripts, photographs and artwork. The collection also contains substantial material related to Brent Cunningham, Jessica Grim and Leslie Scalapino, among others.</p>
